چکیده

The scientific community is becoming more and more interested in the research that applies themathematical formalism of quantum theory tomodel human decision-making. In this paper, we expose the theoretical foundations of the quantum approach to cognition that we developed in Brussels. These foundations rest on the results of two decade studies on the axiomatic and operational-realistic approaches to the foundations of quantum physics. The deep analogies between the foundations of physics and those of cognition lead us to investigate the validity of quantum theory as a general and unitary framework for cognitive phenomena, and the empirical success of the Hilbert space models derived by such investigation provides a strong theoretical confirmation of this validity. However, two situations in the cognitive realm, “question order effects” and “response replicability,” indicate that even the Hilbert space framework could be insufficient to reproduce the expected pattern. This does not mean that the mentioned operational-realistic approach would be incorrect, but simply that a larger class of measurements would be in force in human cognition, so that an extended quantum formalism may be needed to deal with all of them. As we will explain, the recently derived “extended Bloch representation” of quantum theory (and the associated “general tension-reduction” model) precisely provides such extended formalism, while remaining within the same unitary interpretative framework.

Predicting ε50 for Lateral Behavior of Piles in Marine Clay Using an Evolutionary Based Approach

Analyzing piles subjected to lateral loads significantly depends on soil resistance at any point along the pile as a function of pile deflection, known as p-y curve. On the other hand, the deformation characteristics of soil defined as “the soil strain at 50% of maximum deviatoric stress (ε50)” has considerable effect on the generated p-y curve. In this research, several models are proposed to ...

The trace of realistic mathematics education in the school mathematics in Iran

Abstract: In the late 70's, in reaction to both "New Math" movement in the United States and "mechanistic mathematics education" approach to mathematics education in Netherland, Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) has been introduced by Freudenthal and his colleagues. In this educational approach, Freudenthal considered mathematics as a human activity. Based on this approach, education should...

Foundations of quantum physics: a general realistic and operational approach∗

We present a general formalism with the aim of describing the situation of an entity, how it is, how it reacts to experiments, how we can make statistics with it, and how it ‘changes’ under the influence of the rest of the universe. Therefore we base our formalism on the following basic notions: (1) the states of the entity; they describe the modes of being of the entity, (2) the experiments th...

A realistic perish ability inventory management for location-inventory-routing problem based on Genetic Algorithm

In this paper, it was an attempt to be present a practical perishability inventory model. The proposed model adds using spoilage of products and variable prices within a time period to a recently published location-inventory-routing model in order to make it more realistic. Aforementioned model by integration of strategic, tactical and operational level decisions produces better results for sup...

Bearing Capacity of Shallow Foundations on Cohesionless Soils: A Random Forest Based Approach

Determining the ultimate bearing capacity (UBC) is vital for design of shallow foundations. Recently, soft computing methods (i.e. artificial neural networks and support vector machines) have been used for this purpose. In this paper, Random Forest (RF) is utilized as a tree-based ensemble classifier for predicting the UBC of shallow foundations on cohesionless soils. The inputs of model are wi...
